Men in blue should be prepared without MS Dhoni

    04 September 2019

Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly said that the team should be prepared for life without Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The legendary wicket-keeper batsman is currently serving the army.

Dhoni was previously criticised for his clumsy strike rate during their ICC World Cup campaigns. Despite the criticisms, fans defended him. Ganguly said that Dhoni should evaluate where he stands.

‘Indian cricket will have to get used to this thing that MS won't play all the time and won't play for a longer period of time. But I feel this decision MS has to take’, Ganguly said.

‘Every big player has to hang up his shoes. That's sports. Look in football, Maradona had to quit. There hasn't been a bigger player than him. Tendulkar, Lara, Bradman... everyone had to quit. This is the way the system has been and will be’.

There had been rumours about Dhoni’s imminent retirement after the World Cup. However, after meeting the chief of selectors, it is said that Dhoni will not hang his shoes for now.

The Indian cricket team is doing well in the West Indies tour, in the absence of MS Dhoni. Some of the team members broke a lot of records and won consecutively in all matches. Kohli also equalled MS Dhoni’s record and holds a joint record of being the most successful Indian captain in the longest format of the sport.

The Men in Blue won the first Test series of the West Indies tour. In December 2014, MS Dhoni announced his retirement from playing the format.

MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names in the sport who helped bring Indian cricket to the top. He served as the team’s captain until he stepped down in 2017. Dhoni has shown brilliant performances in top cricket leagues where he participated. The wicket-keeper batsman will always be remembered for his extraordinary batting performance and records.
