UAE all set for the Netherlands tour

    05 August 2019

The United Arab Emirates cricket team is set to challenge the Netherlands for the expected bilateral T20 international series. They will tour the Netherlands from August 3 to 8 to play four T20Is. The first two T20I will be played at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen, then the last two matches will take place at The Hague Cricket Ground in Voorburg.

The Emirati team’s goal is to make it for the ICC T20 World Cup. “Everything we are doing now is towards building and developing for the World Cup qualifiers. It would be very good to win in the Netherlands but the much bigger picture for us is qualifying for the T20 World Cup.

“We are on a bit of a journey slowly but surely making improvements so that by the time we get to the qualifiers in the middle of October we will be at the top of our game and that is what we are trying to do,” said UAE coach Dougie Brown.

The team is ready for the upcoming tour. They will also play in the ICC T20 Qualifiers which will be held in their home country from October 11 to November 3. Once they’re qualified, they will take part in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. Team UAE was once played in the 2014 edition.

Last Sunday, Emirates Cricket Board Member and Chief Selector Waleed Bukhatir announced the squad for the team. Mohammad Naveed is the captain of the team. During the press conference, Bukhatir wished the national team for a successful and rewarding tour.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands cricket team has also issued its squad for the upcoming tour. The team will be led by bowler Pieter Seelaar.
