Rohit Sharma broke Chris Gayle’s record for hitting the most number of sixes in the T20I match on Sunday. Team India opener exceeded Gayle’s record during the second set of the game.
Sharma hit the ball over the deep mid-wicket boundary during the eleventh over delivered by Sunil Narine. Sharma has earned 107 sixes under his name. He was also the highest run-getter during the Cricket World Cup with 5 centuries to his name and the highest run-scorer in T20I’s.
The vice-captain has the most number of scores in the shortest format. Presently, he has twenty-one 50+ scores, surpassing the team’s captain, Virat Kohli.
He scored 400 runs against West Indies in the Twenty20 Internationals and has the most runs during the match. Rohit is already the highest six-hitter in ODI cricket with a score of 232. He is now ranked as the 4th in the 50-over format.
During the cricket world cup, he earned 648 runs in 10 matches.
Before leaving for the West Indies, Sharma faced a lot of rumours about his alleged rift with Kohli. The issue sparked after he “unfollowed” Kohli and his wife on Instagram. During a press conference in Mumbai, Kohli slammed the rumours and said that the cricket team’s focus is about winning the tour.
The team is currently preparing for their last T20I on August 6, 2019, in Providence Stadium, Guyana. After the T20I matches, the team will proceed with three sets of One-day Internationals.
