Talking reimagining talent acquisition with Nate Hewitt of Sapia.ai on their Pink Squirrels Podcast.
We had a very spirited discussion around:
What companies are getting wrong with talent acquisition right now
How companies stand out against their talent competitors (even with little or no budget)
How to think differently about the roles they are filling to access more candidates.

About
In 2009 CEO and founder Kim Seeling Smith started Ignite Global after deciding that instead of being paid to put bums in seats (working as a recruiter for the 15 years prior to that) she wanted to help More
Friday funny. Youāve heard of the KISS Principle, right? Keep It Simple Stupid (or I prefer Silly). Now Iād like to introduce the KSS Principle!
KISS Principle
My clients have told me for years that one of my superpowers is breaking down complex concepts and making them simple.
In fact, one of the best testimonials Iāve ever gotten came from Mike Saxton, who said,
A few months ago, I was leading a training session, and I mentioned the KISS Principleā¦and one of the participants said, you should rename it the KSS Principle for Kim Seeling Smith. We had a good laugh, but now I find myself saying it frequently.
Iām curious, what has your experience been with implicit bias training?
Having spent 15 years working as a professional recruiter and 11 years teaching hiring managers how to hire more effectively and efficiently Iāve always felt that implicit bias training was a waste of time.
There is more and more research now backing up my gut feel. Here are two articles that unpack this pretty nicely.
Even worse, there is consistent evidence that bias training done the āwrong wayā (think lukewarm diversity training) can actually have the opposite impact, inducing anger and frustration among white employees. What this all means is that, despite the widespread calls for implicit bias training, it will likely be ineffective at best; at worst, itās a poor use of limited resources that could cause more damage and exacerbate the very issues it is trying to solve.

I had a great time speaking to Ben OāShea on The West Australianās The West Live show about what really drives people to change jobs.
Like in all booms, companies within WA are losing great people for the allure of a high pay packet working in a FIFO environment. Can leaders do anything to stop this from happening (spoiler alert ā yes!).
Why do people look for other roles (spoiler alert ā despite what most leaders think, itās rarely about money)?
What do you do if you lose someone that you donāt want to lose? Can you entice them back (spoiler alert ā statistically, yes, 20% of the time).
If you speak at conferences or events as part of your role or business, chances are youāll encounter the tech crew ā those amazing magicians in black who make everything look and sound great, even under intense pressure.
When youāre under the spotlight, it can be easy to overlook the fact that creating an outstanding conference experience is a team effort. How can you make sure youāre a speaker the tech crew loves to...

Iām going to be unpacking 9 Keys to Avoid the Great Resignation (reverse engineered from over 5,000 exit interviews)ā¦and unveiling some new (and dare I say a bit controversial) insights around this model.
My Facebook memories told me that 1 year ago today was my first appearance on Nineās Today Show. Georgie and I had a spirited discussion about the older workforce. I was optimistic back then. I was FINALLY seeing some cracks in our decades old discrimination against older workers.
Not so much anymore. Iāve read recent stories that Ageism is still alive and well and increasing in our new COVID environment.
Iād love your thoughts. What do you see?
If youāre over 50, what do you find? What are your plans for the future? Remain in full time work, do contract work, side hustle? Start your own business?
