Hypothyroidism is observed in men as well as women very commonly in today’s day and age.
It does have some 20% genetic element, however, it is 80% lifestyle-related, which is the reason it is springing up in young girls and boys as early as 20 to 30 years!
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism are vast:
Top Sixteen Symptoms of Hypothyroid
Fatigue
Increased sensitivity to cold
Constipation
Dry skin
Unexplained weight gain
Puffy face
Hoarseness
Muscle weakness
Elevated blood cholesterol level
Muscle aches and pain
Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
Thinning hair
Slower heart rate
Depressed mood
Impaired memory
Key is to test appropriately and diagnose it.
Most people are advised to test their TSH levels and do total T3 T4, which lack sensitivity in diagnosing this condition.
However, in my opinion, it’s very crucial to test antibodies which are often raised without any change in the thyroid hormones!
The newer guidelines of the American College of Endocrinology consider anybody with a TSH level of over 3.0 as hypothyroid. Most doctors think that TSH over 5 is only worth looking at.
Unfortunately, this leaves many people suffering unnecessarily.
To get complete picture following tests are recommended :
2) Antithyroid antibodies and Thyroid peroxidase antibody should be tested and normal.
3) 24-hour Urine for free T3
4) Reverse T3
Mostly thyroid disorder is also associated with autoimmunity and therefore like in all autoimmune disorders its important to look for underlying disorders, which could be as follows:
a) Chronic gut infections such as Candida, Lyme, Parasites, Viral infections etc
b) Food Intolerances: Gluten, Lactose, and other specific sensitivities or intolerances
c) Nutrient deficiencies such as Iodine, Zinc, Selenium, Iron, Vitamin D, Omega 3 etc.
d) Heavy metal accumulation especially mercury can disrupt thyroid function
e) Pesticides, chemicals, and colors in food damage the thyroid
f) Chronic stress like it is implicated in all chronic diseases it causes thyroid imbalance too
g) Lack of exercise: stagnancy leads to accumulation of toxins due to stasis of lymphatic system.
Iodine is an element. The body needs iodine but cannot make it, therefore we all have a dependence on food and its absorption for maintaining the optimum balance of iodine.
Iodine deficiency most commonly affects the thyroid health, low iodine leads to an inability of our body in making the optimum level of thyroid hormone, this leads to signaling from the brain to produce more thyroid hormone and therefore swelling and inflammation of thyroid gland ensues. This condition is called Goiter.
Other consequences of low iodine can be :
Infertility due to lack of thyroid hormone and in turn no ovulation
Research is strongly indicative of its association with Prostate, breast, ovarian, endometrial cancers.
Autoimmune diseases may set in due to this deficiency
Deficiency leads to a sluggish metabolism and therefore weight gain
Poor nail skin and hair health
Mental health issues are common with deficiency
Compromised immunity is common with deficiency
Deficiency leads to obstructed detoxification from bromine, chlorine, fluoride etc. these are commonly added to public water supplies and can be cancer causing.
Have you ever noticed that you eat certain foods on certain days and you get uneasy with one or more of the following symptoms?
Extreme bloating
Nausea
Hives
Joint pain
Constipation/Diarrhoea
Persistent body aches
Irritability/Anxiety
Stuffy nose
Migraines
Insomnia
Food Allergy : Immediate and can sometimes be dangerous, Itching, hives, sneezing, etc
Food sensitivity : Gradual and delayed response, Fatigue, acne, Irritable bowel, headaches, constipation, bloating, Irritability, thyroid disorder etc
Common causes:
Genetic absence of enzymes needed to digest certain foods.
Certain chemicals in foods can lead to food sensitivities.
Lectins in lentils & vegetables which can only be removed by soaking overnight and pressure cooking.
Natural histamines in certain foods can lead to the physical reaction.
Food additives like MSG, Nitrites, Sulfites and food colorings.
Excessive intake of anti-acids reduces natural production of HCL which is a God-given digestive aid, this reduction leads to a reduced breakdown of the food into its natural end products and increased accumulation of unnatural products (toxins) in the body. this in long-term leads to an overactive immune system.
Treatment:
Know your intolerances and eliminate them is crucial to treat this condition.
Diagnostic tests such as IgE and IgG testing for a comprehensive list of food products from the blood
Elimination diet, Remove each suspected commonly known allergens for a few days and see how you feel in those days.
While food intolerances can cause initial discomfort, however, if left unattended and unaddressed can lead to extreme consequences of autoimmune diseases such as:
“Best healer is the one who makes sure that his or her interventions finally become unnecessary” Ozone, how charged Oxygen acts as nature’s cleanser! Today diseases suffered are mostly due to an over whelming breakdown of immune system, due to this human body is subjected to cancer, chronic fatigue and vast number of degenerative diseases. It is clear that main crisis that both humans and earth are suffering is a lack of oxygen due to severe toxic waste overload.
