6 Highly Neglected Hygiene Travel Tips

    17 January 2022

If you have adventure travelling plans for this season, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind other than your usual itinerary. A lot of people tend to neglect their hygiene when they are travelling, and that is not something that is recommended. Here are six highly neglected hygiene tips to help you avoid any issues.

    Not Keeping Up With Habits

The most crucial thing that you need to do no matter where you are is stick to the normal routines that you do at home. If you have forgotten your dental floss, it doesn't mean that you should skip flossing. They sell floss no matter where you are visiting. But what is very smart to do is always keep a bag set aside that will have all the extras that you can need in case your luggage gets lost.

    Not Staying Hydrated

The wrong thing people do when they are travelling is not drinking enough water, or just drinking other things rather than water. Keeping your body hydrated will not only help you be more awake, enthusiastic, but it will also ensure that your mouth is clean and fresh. Drinking enough water will ensure that there are no food particles stuck in your mouth as well as improve saliva production, which will neutralize the acids in your mouth. Another thing why people avoid drinking water while travelling is the fear of not being able to find the toilet. Not hydrating your body will cause so many different health issues such as UTIs, different kinds of yeast infections and kidney issues.

Not Taking Care Of Your Teeth

Not a lot of people will buy a new toothbrush to take to their adventure, and that is not the best idea. Make sure that you are taking a brand-new toothbrush, preferably one that hasn't been opened yet. That will keep it in shape and clean while being in the suitcase. If you are using an electric toothbrush at home, don't just leave it and get a normal one, it is not that complicated to pack your electric toothbrush and keep up with your oral hygiene. Another thing that you should do is pack some gum. Chewing sugar-free gum while you are travelling will help keep your teeth clean and scrub your sugar cravings, which will keep your teeth healthy. If it does happen that you start having some teeth issues, make sure that you are getting them checked out even when you are in a foreign country to prevent emergency tooth removal.

    Insufficient Hand Hygiene

One of the most important things that you need to keep in your mind when you are travelling is to keep your hands clean at all times, especially now when we are in the middle of a pandemic. Staying clean and healthy when you are travelling is super easy. All you need to do is try not to touch dirty objects, and keep your hands clean. Always, no matter what, wash your hands after using the toilet, before eating and even touching an animal. As it is not always possible to find warm water and soap, make sure that you always carry a hand sanitizer. Another thing that you should always do when you're travelling that many people don't think about is ensuring that your nails are well taken care of. That is because not a lot of people realize how many germs will be under your nails if you don't cut them and keep them clean.

    Not Showering

Depending on what your travelling style is, sometimes it won't be possible to take full showers every night. But always do your best to lean yourself off before you lay in bed. Make sure that you are getting rid of all the bacteria that are clinging to your skin. Keep in mind that if you are in a community shower, you should always wear something on your feet to avoid attracting fungi infections. It will also help you not slip and injure yourself.

    Not Being Preventative

When you are travelling, make sure that you take preventative measures to keep your hygiene and health at their prime. If you are travelling somewhere where it's humid and warm, make sure that you are wearing light clothes that are airy, preferably cotton. That is because otherwise you are risking developing yeast infections. Another thing that you should ensure is that you are wearing clean clothes, and if you run out of them, make sure that you are cleaning them. Along with that, you should always keep some personal wet wipes on you just in case you never know what you might need them for.

As the final recommendation for travelling, always make sure that you have travel insurance just in case something goes wrong.
