Slow punctures: How to find them, and when can you get them repaired?

02 July 2019

Which ever kind of puncture, it is always inconvenient in the end. Apart from being inconvenient, a puncture is also dangerous in most of the situations. One of these is the slow puncture. When your tyres leak air slowly over time, then the puncture will be termed as a slow puncture.

It can take more than a day or a week to lose the pressure entirely and hence, they are very hard to discover without a monitoring or puncture tracking system.

Howto find that your car is facing the problem of a slow puncture?

A visual clue like having a deflated tyre or an out of shape tyre can point your tyres towards having a slow puncture. If you find out these kinds of issues with your car tyres, then get it checked with us. Our experts will perform a thorough examination to check if your tyre leaks or not?

If your tyres have a visible wearing that is different from the regular wearing of the tyre, then there might be a possibility that your car is leaking air.

The most obvious visual clue is a foreign material that is stuck in your car tyres. This can be anything ranging from a nail to some sharp spikes, or a piece of broken glass.

We suggest you keep a pressure gauge and measure the pressure in your tyres from time to time. If your tyres are losing pressure more frequently than the normal, then bring your car to us for a puncture check.

Another clue that you can feel is the increase in your overall car noise. This happens because your tyres start to lose pressure while it is in a dynamic state. Herein, more of the rubber comes in contact with the road and hence, there is an increase in the noise.

The noise may also sound like clicks, and you may easily differentiate this sound from a usual ride.

Modern cars also make use of advanced technologies that help them to discover punctures more quickly. If you don't have such a system installed in your vehicle, then bring your car to us and get it for you.

Is it OK to repair slow punctures?

To some extent, slow punctures can be repaired with the only condition that the hole has not gone big over time. Hence, it is recommended to bring your car to our garage as soon as you discover that your tyres have a puncture.

In case you are using high-performance tyres, any puncture that occurs due to debris or a stray nail should not be repaired, if their speed rating doesn't allow it.

If your tyres are corroded or have been repaired before, in that situation, we don't carry out repairs due to safety reasons.

Another case in which punctures are not repaired is when the damage is on the side wall. As the sidewall is responsible for bearing all of the load on the tyres, any damage on it will result in compromising situations.

If you are facing any such slow leaks or you are definite that your tyre has a puncture, then bring it to us. We here at Superior Cars provide all sorts of tyre repairs.
