Remove your pet's muddy paw prints from the carpet

    20 August 2019

Pets not only provide us with companionship but also a great deal of emotional support. They indulge the people of the house in fun activities and become the source of joy on many occasions. There is simply no denying the kind of positive energy the pets bring into the house.

However, as loving as they can be and even with all the positive vibes they give – all pet owners can agree to one thing that it can become extremely difficult to keep the house neat and tidy with pets around especially with the rainy season when they bring their muddy paws on your carpet!

Now, you cannot make your pets wear shoes which is why we have compiled a few tips that can help you in removing your pet’s muddy paw prints from your carpet!

Tip # 1 – Let it Dry Out

As ironic as it sounds, this tried and tested method requires you to dry off the mud first! The mud is easier to remove once it dry. This method will also help in protecting the fibers of your carpet. However, if there is a lot of mud you can grab a towel and blot it gently to remove the mud from the top. As much as you will be tempted – do not, in any case, rub the mud on the carpet. You will be doing more damage than you think!

Once the mud has dried out, switch on your vacuum cleaner and remove the dirt. Vacuum over the muddy area hard and long to get rid of every last piece of dust particle. The more you vacuum, the cleaner your carpet will get. Once the chunks of dirt are gone, you can use a mixture of detergent and carpet cleaner to get rid of the stain from the carpet. The more damage, the more solution you will be needing. Use a white cloth to get rid of the dirt until the stain is completely gone! If the stain still does not go, you can consult one of London carpet cleaners to get professional help.

Tip # 2 – Rubber Boots all the Way!

Your beloved four-legged fur ball can wear rain boots! Yes, you heard that right, there are rain boots specially made to fit your dog or cat. They may seem like an accessory, but they come in handy especially in the rainy season.

Dog rain boots function pretty much like human rain boots. They are meant to be taken off outside the house. Your pet will take a while to get used to them, but once they do you do not have to worry about muddy paws ever again!

    Tips # 3 – Wipe it off

A handy tip for all those who have pets around the house – keep wet wipes at your arms reach. Wet wipes are not just meant to clean your baby’s bottom. They can be super handy around the house. We are not suggesting you wipe the mud off the carpet but wipe your pet’s paws even before they reach the carpet. This can be a difficult task and it will require you to be alert at all times. But, imagine all the pain it will save you from if your pet decides to jump into a muddy puddle.

    Tip # 4 – Spot Treatment

Getting yourself worked up over muddy paw prints is honestly not worth it. You already know they are bound to happen during the rainy season. No matter what you do to prevent it, there will always be one instance where all your efforts will go to vain. So, what to do then? The best action would be to keep a solution of detergent and vinegar in a sprayer bottle and spray it all over the stain. Dab it off using a white cloth. Make sure you are not using a dirty cloth over and over again. This will only make matters worse.

You can also get yourself a ready-made stain remover from the market. Remember, the fresher the stain the spot treatment will work better on it. Whatever you do, do not be harsh with any of your methods else you will end up ruining your carpet. Additionally, do not rub the stain as you do not want it to spread and do more harm than good. You may notice a funny smell even after you are done cleaning. We have an explanation for it – animals mostly sweat from their paws. This results in the area they have left their prints on to smell funny. You can get rid of the smell by sprinkling some baking soda on top of the affected area.

Tip # 5 – Soak Tub to the Rescue

If you happen to have a spare soak tub around the house then this is the day it comes handy. On a rainy day, all you have to do is fill it water and put it right outside your door. It would take a few demonstrations before your pet picks up the concept. If you don’t have a soaking tub, you can even keep a small plastic container and fill it with water. A hand towel nearby would help even more to dry them off before they enter the house. You can even do this for your children. If their hands or feet have become dirty from playing outside you can keep a small dish outside for them to clean up.

    Conclusion

At the end of the day, it is the memories that count. If you and your pet are having a good time, then do not let a few mud stains ruin your day. If it makes you feel any better, pets are completely unaware of what is happening to the carpet. Therefore, it would just useless to complain about them around. In case it gets really bad and you have tried every single tip and hack available on the internet, you can always take help from professional carpet cleaning services. They can help get rid of the stains in a much better way.
