    Forms of Acrylic Adhesives

Acrylic adhesive comprising of methyl acrylic or acrylic polymers is a resin-based adhesive.  It is created by the polymerization of methyl acrylic or acrylic acids through a reaction with a specified catalyst. These adhesives have high strength and efficiency when it comes to bonding several items together. They are available in different forms depending upon the requirements of industries. Due to their strong resistance to sunlight, humidity and temperature fluctuations they are a preferred choice in most of the industrial applications.

    Permanent & Temporary Acrylic Adhesives

The criteria that form some of the vital specifications of acrylic adhesives include the adhesive’s viscosity, the curing temperature and the desired setting. Basically, adhesives can be of two types; permanent ones and temporary ones. Temporary acrylic adhesives are made with lower viscosity, adhesion and cohesion and hence can be removed with water or adhesive removers of low grade quality without causing damage to the surface material. Permanent acrylic adhesives are resistant to any form of environmental factors.

    Forms of Acrylic Adhesives

Acrylic adhesives are available in three forms; liquid, paste and tape form. A brief on each of them is enumerated below.

Liquid acrylic adhesives: This form of adhesive is commonly used in varied settings like carpentry, decorations and upholstery work. It requires a damp piece of cloth or brush for application. The substance used for application has to be dirt-free before use and also cleaned thoroughly after use. This ensures that the adhesive also remains clean and does not get contaminated with residue material and the object used for application is prevented from hardening. Direct application on to the object is possible in this adhesive form.

Paste acrylic adhesives: This form of adhesives comes in a tube and it has to be squeezed out for application. The provision of a brush along with the tube offers ease of application on to the object.  Though this form is suitable for every application it is largely used for glass, metal, wood and items that are waterproof in nature. A combination of acrylic adhesives in paste and liquid form is used in cases where a permanent bonding solution is needed.

Tape acrylic adhesives: In addition to the paste and liquid form, the third form of acrylic adhesive is the tape form. This form finds its way into fabric-related applications. It can be either single-sided or double-sided depending upon the client needs. A single-sided application involves bonding two overlapping substances while a double-sided application involves back-to-back bonding of two substances either permanently or temporarily.

    Summarizing

Acrylic adhesives are eco-friendly adhesives that offer a balance between tack or the degree of bonding between the adhesive and the adherent; shear or the capacity of the adhesive to bond to itself; peel or bonding strength between the adherent and adhesive which normally enhances over time as the process of curing takes place. There are several reputed manufacturers offering a wide variety of acrylic adhesives for use in varied industrial applications. The right form and type of adhesive has to be chosen to obtain the best advantages of the product.
