A total knee replacement is a surgical procedure where the blemished knee joint is replaced with artificial components. The artificial components of a total knee replacement are introduced as the artificial leg(prosthesis). The total knee replacement surgery is performed at the knee joint where the femur(thighbone) adjoins the tibia(lower leg bone). During a total knee replacement surgery , the end of the thigh bone is removed and replaced with a metal shell.
