6 Chic Christmas Decorating Ideas For Your Home

    23 November 2022

It is that time of the year when we all need to venture into our dark lofts and cupboards to retrieve the dusty Christmas decorations from years before. What if this year you decided to switch things up, perhaps create a completely new and chic Christmas aesthetic?

Taking the plunge into revamping your long-standing Christmas decoration collection is a big decision to make, but sometimes it is needed. If you have a beautiful home the worst thing you could do is dress it up with outdated decorations that do not fit into one aesthetic. Instead, we should keep within the trends of today, and such trends include keeping things minimalistic, and shiny and following one colour scheme. Keeping things chic and minimal does not have to mean your house looks bare and untouched. What it will show is that you are an interior designing expert who knows how to make a room sparkle without overdoing it.

Here are some of our favourite decoration features you can incorporate into your home this Christmas.

Make The Fireplace The Focal Point

When it comes to Christmas, the fireplace needs to be decorated to perfection. This is not to say you should create fire hazards, but as it is the place for Santa to come down the chimney you need to make it fit for the man in red himself. Small but elegant features would include draping a garland along the top of the fireplace and integrating fairy lights and small decor features along. Don’t forget about the stockings on the fireplace!

    Front Door Decor

What would be a better welcome home than to be greeted by a festive front door display? Unless you are living in a friendly neighbourhood not everyone will be invited into your house to marvel at the interior decorations. One of the staple door decorations is of course a wreath, but you shouldn’t just go for any old wreath. Go for a frosted, pinecone-decorated wreath featuring baubles. Or, if you want to step out of the contemporary norms, trail a splash of colour. Citrus fruit decor is really popular at the minute, and it is a fun way to add some splashes of colour.

    Set The Mood With Lighting

If you are looking for that one decoration tip that can turn a dark forgotten room into a sparkling winter wonderland, then you should consider prioritising the lighting in your home. The twinkling of lights signifies that Christmas feeling, and making sure each room of the home has some form of soft lighting features is essential.

Simply adding fairy lights across focal points of the room is effective, but our favourite decor tip is to invest in some timed, battery-powered candles. Artificial candles are so simple yet effective at creating a warm atmosphere in a room, not to mention they are miles safer than using a real candle! To keep things chic, avoid using tacky multicoloured lighting, and stick to one theme that expresses itself across the home.

    Cosy Throws & Pillows

Christmas also means having a movie marathon of all the classic festive films you can think of. If you want to sink into your sofa and soak in Christmas comfort you should consider investing in some new festive throws and cushion covers. They are the easiest way to make your living room cheerful, and you do not have to invest too much. The great thing about investing in some new luxury cushion covers is that they can be replaced once the festive season is over, and stored away for next year.

    Dining Table Features

The most important event of the day is the Christmas dinner, where everyone comes together to have their meal and show their appreciation for each other. The table centre piece is a key part of the whole experience, and ensuring it looks radiant will help the homely feeling of the meal. A flower or reef arrangement in the centre that features some candles will tie the room together. Also, ensure you have an elegant runner across the table to display all your dinner accompaniments on.

    Dazzling Stairs

Now if your stairs are being neglected in the decorating process, then you are doing it all wrong. Your stairs should be one of the most glamorous features of your home. There are many ways you might consider making it look dreamy, but if you are looking for a classy and chic design you should incorporate a garland running across the bannister, and feature some lights and festive artificial flowers. You can often find pre-decorated garlands for your bannisters, but it can often work out cheaper to find the materials yourself.
