The rudimentary hunter's chair embodies the most original type of seating furniture - for a long time without relieving the back. The British inventor J. Fenby patented the first armchair with a foldable backrest based on this original type.
The model, consisting of 10 wooden sticks connected with metal swivel fittings and overlaid fabric, met with a great response from British colonial officers . Beyond militarism, the armchair found great approval in the booming leisure segment around 1900 and in Italy the armchair was sold under the name 'Tripolina' in the 1930s with a leather cover extremely popular as a lounge chair for the home.
Fenby's armchair construction can be unfolded in no time and we encounter it today in a modified form, for example as camping furniture. Since the front seat boundaries barely cut in, the armchair offers excellent comfort with minimal stowage volume at the same time.
