We have experimented with Different ways to apply spray foam to flat roofing substrates. Tar and gravel, Tpo, Epdm, and modified Bitumen (BUR), but have found that if we apply foam over another substrate that it leaves room for error because the substrate can fail and cause a leak. We only apply foam directly to the wood decking this ensures a watertight bond between the foam and the house The only way for the roof to leak is for there to be a noticeable crack in the foam leading down to a cracking the decking.
