The Most Sustainable & Healthy Flooring Options

Every year on November 15, a large number of Americans take part in America Recycles Day. The day is meant to encourage recycling and the use of recycled products. With that said, November is a month to seriously consider whether we could use more eco-friendly options inside our homes. With floors being the part that occupies most space in our homes, it is best to start with greener flooring options. Manufacturers have stepped up and provided the design community with a wide variety of gorgeous possibilities as more and more designers look for eco-friendly materials for their ecologically conscious consumers. There are several options available if you want to use environmentally friendly flooring. Find out the expected lifespan and what upkeep is necessary to maintain it in good condition before making a decision.

Bamboo

Another alternative that resembles wood and is growing in favor is bamboo flooring. It is actually grass with traits that resemble those of hardwood. With a three to five-year harvest cycle, it is one of the fastest-growing plants and one of the most renewable. It is now available in FSC-certified and formaldehyde-free versions for improved interior air quality. It is also a wonderful alternative because it is tougher than oak. Additionally, bamboo offers many cherished advantages of classic hardwood flooring, including a lovely, conventional aesthetic, lasting sturdiness, and flexibility in grain, texture, and stain colors.

Cork

The bark of the cork oak tree, which is frequently found in Mediterranean woodland ecosystems, is used to make cork. Since it is derived from the cork oak tree, the trees themselves continue to stand. Cork flooring is excellent for maintaining the air quality in your home since they naturally repel mold, mites, and other allergens in addition to being a very environmentally friendly material. The bark of a cork oak tree is used to create this eco-friendly flooring. The material is a desirable choice because it is both fire-resistant and reasonably priced.
