How to Plan A Great Barrier Reef Tour

Great Barrier Reef is a naturally occurring reef near the coast of Queensland in Australia. It is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and is said to house a wide variety of aquatic life forms. As it is slowly getting destroyed due to the rise in pollution, it is better to make sure that you experience it at least once in your lifetime. To fully experience the beauty, it is important to know how to swim as the reef is completely submerged deep under the Coral Sea.

Great Barrier Reef consists of 2900 reefs along 900 different islands, which in totality, stretches across 2300 KM and covers a total area of 344,400 square kilometers. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site and the tourism around it is pretty regulated.

To make the most of your dive towards the Great Barrier Reef, make sure you follow the tips given below

Select the tour package according to your swimming capabilities

Any tour to Great Barrier Reef will take you to at least 2 different locations on the reef so that you can enjoy it to the fullest. It is not mandatory to be a seasoned diver, but you must at least know swimming if you want to explore the coral reefs properly. While the agencies will tell you that you will get 2-3 hours at each location, even experienced divers and swimmers will not be able to stay underwater after 45 minutes of swimming. Hence, the spot where you will explore the reef should be chosen as per your swimming capabilities.

Pay attention to the tour package content

You will find a wide variety of tour packages that will offer you different features. Before selecting the tour package, ensure that all the essentials are included in the price and you won’t have to pay extra for it. Things like food, traveling, and equipment should be at least included in the package you buy to save money. You can save a bit of money by removing the activities that you don’t want to do. Even if you get a cheap costing tour, make sure you do thorough research about the company offering it to ensure its legitimacy.

    Never go for advance booking

While it may seem lucrative to book your reef tour in advance, it is not a good idea. The hotel where you might stay will have tie-ups with certain tour companies and they will help you to get in touch with them and even get heavy discounts. Also, the service of these companies will be top-notch as the hotel’s reputation will be on the line. This will help you save a lot of money and even get a few freebies while you are on the tour.
