Ways You Can Use Yoga To Strengthen Your Joints

    21 November 2019

Joints are places in our bodies where two bones meet and yoga Narrabeen in New South Wales can be used to strengthen these. Joints can be immovable such as where the six bones of the pelvis meet or where the bones of the skull meet. However, most often, joints are categorized as freely or slightly moveable, such as the joints of the elbow, the vertebral column, ankle joints and wrist joints. We will primarily discuss how yoga can strengthen moveable joints.

    Joint anatomy

Joints are connected in such a way to make your body a mobile unit. They are made up of tendons, two or more bones, synovial fluid and cartilage. Synovial fluid provides lubrication for the joint so that the parts of the joint don’t rub on each other during movement. Synovial fluid in your joints reduces friction. Yoga can keep your joints mobile and healthy in the following ways.

    Increasing your range of motion

Every group of joints and joint has a range of motion that is measured in degrees. For instance, your lumbar spine and lower back have a motion range of about 30 degrees extending and about 70 degrees flexion. However, these numbers differ based on the source. You can use yoga to regain more of these numbers to do daily things in your life such as bending over.

The wrist joint that has a normal range of motion of flexion can go up to 90 degrees with an extension of up to 70 degrees. When you practice yoga, your yoga instructor Narrabeen in New South Wales will instruct you to do yoga poses that will increase your normal range of motion and you will find that your wrists are more capable of raking up the dreaded fall leaves. If you play golf, you will have better swings.

Yoga can be used to strengthen the muscles that support your joints

A tendon is one of the major components of a joint. If you were to follow your tendon away from the joint then it would turn into a muscle. When you strengthen muscles with yoga poses, you create stronger muscles that will support your body and relieve the strain and stress on the joint. Weaker muscles around your joints mean that your body relies on the joints for stability. Weakness in the surrounding muscles can lock out your joints and reduce mobility.

    Increased bone strength

Most people think that bones are a non-living thing but the truth is that bones are breathing and living tissues. The ends of the bones are major components of joints. This makes sense that healthy bones promote a healthy joint. Stress-bearing activities such as yoga poses signals the bone cells to increase cell production in the bones. A lack of activity will signal the bones that they don’t need to build bone material production. This can also signal minerals to be deposited somewhere else. Yoga Narrabeen can help to strengthen your bones and a strong and solid built-up bone will provide the groundwork for a strong and solid joint.
