Overview
Palisades is a residential community in the southernmost part of Rockland County, New York. It is a part of the Town of Orangetown and is bordered by Sparkill to its north, Rockleigh and Alpine, NJ to its south, Tappan to its west, and the Hudson River to its east. The hamlet is home to several historic places including Sneden’s Landing, located in its eastern portion between the Hudson River and US Route 9W. Palisades was named after the steep rugged cliffs along the western banks of the Hudson in New York and New Jersey. Once claimed by both states, a king’s commission placed Palisades within the borders of the state of New York in 1769. The hamlet is less than an hour’s drive from New York City.

Tourist Attractions
There are a number of must-see places in Palisades. Most of them are listed under the National Register of Historic Places like the Abner Concklin House, a two-story residence also known as the Old Yellow House. And then there’s the oldest dwelling in the hamlet, the Big House which dates back to 1735. There are other dwelling like the Little House and Haring-Eberle House and estates like the Seven Oaks and Neiderhurst that are worth a visit.
