    Advantages of Aquaculture

    24 August 2019

Aquaculture, which can also be termed as aqua farming is nothing but the farming of aquatic organisms such as aquatic plants, crustaceans, mollusks and fish. It involves cultivation of freshwater and saltwater organisms under controlled conditions.

The demand for fish has increased with leaps and bounds and the sea simply cannot keep up with the supplies. That is the reason why aquaculture has come into being so that it can help to increase the production so that the current demands for fish can be met; be it marine, freshwater or even shell fish.

Aquaculture has been able to play a key role in transforming the economies for many areas. Apart from meeting the increasing demands for fish, this method has been able to contribute towards some social benefits as well. Thanks to aquaculture, a lot of job opportunities have been created. Whereas the job market for wild fish harvesting is either stagnant or decreasing slowly. This method promises to recruit those who have been put out of work along with new people.  Fish Farming Business Malaysia

The dietary needs of the people have also been taken care of due to aquaculture. Fish consists of a lot of essential micronutrients, minerals, and proteins that are required in your diet. Due to the large amount of production, fish is becoming more and more affordable and is within the reach of the common masses.

Apart from the social benefits, there are a lot of environmental benefits which aquaculture has to offer. There has been a considerable amount of decrease in the pressure on wild fisheries. There are a lot of fisheries in the world which have already reached unsustainable or unhealthy levels. An aquaculture sector which is undergoing a lot of growth can bring down the level of pressure that has been created on the wild fish stocks provided that the market demand for farmed fish is equivalent to that of wild fish.

Aquaculture could also prove to be less harmful to the eco system than a few other traditional fishing techniques. Techniques like ocean trawling damages the ocean's substrate to a great extent and can even result in the death of non-targeted species. These risks are minimized with the help of aquaculture.
