Slack vs. Microsoft Teams

When you work remotely, it is vital to coordinate with your team. Fortunately, we have some workspace tools that will help you to communicate with your team members.

If we talk about the workspace tools, then two names come to mind: Slack and Microsoft Teams. And it is quite difficult to decide which one is better for a user. Depending on features, today will compare both the workspace tools and try to find a suitable option for you.

Messaging

Slack and Microsoft Teams, both provide almost similar features for messaging, including plain texting style and tagging. You can use GIFs on both platforms to convey your message. Microsoft Teams provides you with a simple and efficient way to share your GIFs but to insert GIFs into Slack, you will need to type a command.

Microsoft Teams offers you a toolbar present at the bottom that allows you to access a plethora of GIFs as well as stickers. You can also customize them by clicking the Stickers key. Slack is integrated with Bitmoji and other services, but it is not easy to use as compared to Microsoft Teams.

But if we talk about message interface customization, Slack offers a more fluid interface. You can change its appearance by switching dark as well as light themes, and you can also change the colors of the sidebar that will add a new feel to your messaging.

Pricing Models

Both Slack and Microsoft Teams offer free versions but come with their own limitations.

Slack offers 5GB storage, unlimited channels that can be public or private, and ten app integrations with its free plan. The free plan of Slack limits your discoverable message history to only 10,000 entries.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Teams offers you unlimited messages, 140 integrated apps and services, 2GB storage space per individual, screen sharing, and unlimited guest access. Its free version limits the team’s access to 300 users.

However, if you want additional features, you can buy their premium packages. You can avail Slack’s standard package $6.67/month that will offer you unlimited apps, 10GB storage per individual, screen sharing, guest access, and access to all of the message history. Slack offers other plans too that will increase storage per person.

Microsoft Teams has two paid plans. The first one costs $5/month per person and will give you 10GB storage per individual, but the user limitation will remain 300. This plan offers OneDrive integration along with Exchange hosting, Microsoft support, and meeting recordings. The other plan is The Office 365 Business Premium package. This plan sums up at $20/month per person. This plan removes the storage limitation and will add some additional features.

Web Conferencing

The free plan of Slack offers unlimited one-on-one voice and video calling. If you want more callers in your conference, then you will have to purchase its premium plan that will allow you to make conference calls with up to 15 callers.

Microsoft Teams’ free version allows you to do unlimited voice and video calls, and you can add up to 250 individuals at your conference. You can also record your meetings.
