HOW TO FIX PRINTER SPOOLER SERVICE IS NOT RUNNING?

09 March 2019

What is a print spooler service?

A software program which is responsible for managing all print jobs currently being sent to the computer printer or print server. In short when an application prints a document, the preferred formatted output is stored on disk, and the print spooler feeds the print images to the printer in the background at slower printing speed. Print spooler Service also allows a user to delete a print job being processed.

Some Printer users may get a “print spooler service” error while trying to install a printer in Windows that says:
"Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running."

To solve this error, try the following steps-

  • In your keyboard press “Window key” + “R” to open the Run Box.
  • Type “services.MSC“, then Click “OK“.
  • Now double-click the “Printer Spooler”, and change the startup type to “Automatic“. This will set the Spooler service to start automatically & when you restart the computer. Hit “OK“.
  • Once done Restart the computer and try to install the printer again.

If the Print Spooler service keeps stopping after your restart the Computer, the problem is most likely related to corrupted printer drivers that are installed on the computer. Try uninstalling all printers and its software from the computer and start from scratch. This will include PDF writer or faxing software as well. If there is any software installed for printers in Add/Remove Programs you would uninstall it all. Obtain updated software from your
printer manufacturers and make sure to reinstall only the items you need.

You must try cleaning out everything possible that might be interrupting the Printer Spooler -
