Why do managers fail at managing their teams?

16 December 2019

Since years, a pattern has been observed which highlights the fact that managers often are not able to manage their team, even if they do, they are not able to do the same perfectly while keeping every team member happy or at the same page.

This is why in this blog, I thought of helping you with the same. Given below are the reasons that may be affecting your managerial skills.

  • Because of less development and training- The lack of the same makes them go for the trial and error method which isn’t a healthy wat to go about it. When you try and test several times over people, they get irritated with the wrong you do and this is why getting the work done from people gets more difficult.

  • Because they don’t want to manage- Everyone looks for growth in their career and when they think of the ideal path to do so, becoming a manager is one of the most apparent one. This is why they become a manager even when they don’t like the work they do so to raise their income and that is actually what makes them fail at their jobs.

  • Because they lack maturity- This is a sheer sign of those who are not right for the managerial position. They lack emotional intelligence and self-management capabilities and competency.

  • Because of the lack of social maturity- Some managers may be good at self-management but they may be lacking the social maturity that is required a lot. They should be able to interact in a better way. If the manager has a strange ego, low or no team morale, he may not be socially mature enough. When such people become powerful as a manager, they come out as a bad manager.

  • Because of the low professional aptitude- They have low aptitude in the subject matter and because of the same they might not earn the respect from their team members.

  • Because they are expected and allowed to fail- Mostly, employees don’t expect them to be really good at what they do. The team already doesn’t have that much of faith in their manager and so they take it as no surprise when the manager fails. Even if they use the best HR software in India, they can fail as they are not motivated enough by their teams.

There is a famous saying which goes like you don’t know what you don’t know. This is why if you will have no idea as to what you are missing on, how will you make it any different or be ready to change it. In such an unaware environment, you cannot ask an employee who has stayed in a healthy work environment and professional and productive colleagues and managers to stay in such immature leadership. Because of the aforementioned reasons, it will become a reason good enough for the managers to fail. It is primarily because they are okay with nominal efforts.
