Invoking goddess Durga on earth, Kolkata observed Mahalaya with devotional songs, scriptural recitations and prayers as greetings on social media enlivened a rainy day. Meanwhile, around 300 people came together to create the longest ‘alpana’ or ‘rangoli’ on 1.4 km stretch of Lake Road in South Kolkata.

Durga is the other half of Shiva; he is the form, she is the expression. Shakti (Durga) is considered to be the mother of the
