By shifting routine tasks to AI, we aim to empower human engineers to focus on what they do best, creating new innovative software, faster than ever before.

Second began with our founder Eric Rowell’s frustration with mundane engineering maintenance tasks that take time away from innovating and building new, amazing software. 

Having built and maintained large enterprise software systems for over a decade, Eric knew firsthand that companies unnecessarily waste about 50% of engineering capacity on maintenance.

With the emergence of AI and the ability for software to understand developer intent, Eric decided that it was time to do something about it. 

In January 2023, he applied to Y Combinator with a few ideas and a sincere passion for improving the lives of developers. A few weeks later, he was accepted into the winter 2023 batch, along with the opportunity of a lifetime to create Second.
